Breaking the Grip of One Party Government

I was not surprised to learn over the weekend that two candidates are a ticket.  Ms. Charlotte Worthy, AIA, and Dr. James D. Hays, PHD, have endorsed one another.  Prepare for a series of hosted social events on their behalf, followed by a written endorsement from Houston and Larry.

On a practical basis, their election as a pair would result in a continuation of exclusive government, which is the opposite of what we need.  For example, without questioning or probing, Charlotte has always voted in lockstep with the Mayor.  I have no indication she will change or that James would be any different.  We should ask them.

It is not in our best interest when a handful of individuals run the Village government.  Their principle concern is maintaining a tight grip over power, not running an effective government.  Therefore, instead of embracing public participation, they resist it.

Please help me stop this cycle of polarization.  To move forward we need to be creative and work together.  I am running for Village Trustee because my experience as a former Mayor and commitment to inclusive government offers an appropriate blend of qualifications for the times and challenges we face ahead.  Together, let us bring an end to one party control and the polarization that comes with it.
