If it's Sunday... | March 17, 2007
In a recent posting on the Village website and in his March Newsletter, the Mayor suggested that the DPW should work 7 days a week, even on Sundays, to clean up the Racetrack. Specifically, he says, "To act as expeditiously as possible and to complete the job faster, the Village will be conducting cleanup operations at the Village racetrack (involving the removal of wood chips, leaves and mulch) Monday - Sunday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m....Richie and the DPW have been notified.

We question the wisdom of authorizing overtime expense for a project that has been years in the making and where there is no justification for such urgency. Furthermore, the agreement negotiated by Trustee Parker included a provision for the operator of Perfect Cut, the mulching facility, to clean up the Racetrack with his own trucks, equipment and labor making overtime for additional DPW clean-up unnecessary.
