Mayor Wilson Announces His Candidacy For Congress In The 19th District of New York
Mayor Tom Wilson: “Congress is a dysfunctional mess. It’s time to fight for what’s
right – and that means creating jobs, rebuilding our infrastructure, and standing up
for the middle-class. Our district needs a leader, not a naysayer.”
January 10, 2011 -- TUXEDO PARK, NY -- Mayor Tom Wilson today announced his candidacy to represent New York families in the 19th Congressional District. Wilson, the Mayor of Tuxedo Park, took Congress to task for their do-nothing attitude that has lost touch with middle-class families.
Wilson remarked, “In these tough economic times, it’s outrageous that so many in Washington are more interested in bickering and naysaying than doing what’s right. They’ve lost sight of what really matters – creating jobs and competing in the global economy. Too many D.C. insiders are more interested in special tax breaks for oil and insurance companies – while opposing a payroll tax cut for middle-class families who need it the most. It’s time to bring common sense back to Washington. That’s why I’m running for Congress.”
Wilson knows what it’s like to take on the special interests and politics as usual -- firsthand. Tom became concerned with an irresponsible real estate development plan in the Hudson Valley – that would negatively impact the local economy and our shared sense of community. To fight for the rights of Hudson Valley families, Tom led a grassroots effort, forming Tuxedo Land Trust (TLT). The grassroots Trust was established not only to oppose hazardous and irresponsible development, but to
promote common sense, local growth -- low carbon, clean water, renewable energy – while preventing deforestation. TLT took on a multi-billion dollar developer and was credited with preventing the degradation of Hudson Valley’s major source of drinking water. Following this successful grassroots, community effort, Tom went on to become Tuxedo Park Trustee and ultimately Mayor, working to bring people together with a vision to grow our local economy with a strong, community-based approach.
“The more work I do as a Mayor, the clearer it is to me that Washington is broken. Families and small communities are getting squeezed by a heavy economic burden. We need creative solutions to help our communities thrive,” Wilson remarked, “In our villages and towns, there isn’t time to pander or finger-point. It’s about getting things done. Improving our infrastructure. Creating jobs. And balancing the budget – the right way. It should be no different in Washington.”

Village of Tuxedo Park Power Update
Thanks & Next Steps
I want to thank every resident for their patience and cooperation during a difficult time last week. Last week's storm taught us a few more things that we can do to improve life in the Village during an emergency.
After Hurricane Irene, the Village hooked the South Gate up to a generator to insure its continued operation during a power outage. This action proved to be successful last week. In addition to the Village Office, it is now clear that a new generator needs to be hooked up at the Police Station and Front Gate. It is anticipated that these new generators will be installed by December 31, 2011.
To assist with cleanup efforts, the Village is allowing landscapers to work every Saturday throughout the month of November. We are also looking into the short-term leasing of a commercial leaf shredder, due to ongoing problems at the Town Recyclying Facility. Finally, the Village needs a comprehensive tree culling program. I am meeting with a tree company on Tuesday, November 8, to begin a proposal to remove dangerous trees and limbs throughout the Park.
In addition to our residents, I would like to extend my thanks to the following people for their extraordinary work during last week's power outage:
Jeff Voss, Village of Tuxedo Park DPW Superintendent
Ken Sanford, Village of Tuxedo Park Police Chief
Pat Welsh, Town of Tuxedo Police Chief
Brian Malone, Tuxedo Park Fire Company #1 Fire Chief
Stefan Christian, Sterling Forest Fire Company #2 Fire Chief
Ralph Brooks, Eagle Valley Fire Company #3 Fire Chief
John Kilduff, Tuxedo Ambulance Corps President
Claudia Depkin, Tuxedo Park Library Director
It was truly a team effort, and the Village owes every member of these organizations continued thanks and appreciation.
Sincerely,
Mayor Thomas Wilson

Tuxedo Lake and Dams Update
To all Village Residents:
I am writing to inform every one of several issues that the Village is currently working on:
As you may have noticed, the Village has been lowering the Tuxedo Lake level so that DEC mandated repairs can be made on the Tuxedo dam, and additional spillway repairs can be completed on the Wee-Wah dam. The plan is to keep lake levels low for at least the next 30-60 days. It is recommended that boat and dock owners monitor the lake level to prevent their boats or docks from being grounded.
In addition, there has been a recent discovery of an invasive weed near the Tuxedo Dam. It is called Eurasian Water Milfoil. This weed spreads when broken into fragments. If unabated, it can interfere with fishing, swimming, and boating. Buoys have been set up to mark the known area of weed growth to deter boat propellers from exacerbating the problem. The Village considers mitigation of Eurasian Water Milfoil to be of the highest priority and will begin implementing a remediation plan within the next 30 days. In the meantime, please avoid fishing and boating near the buoys and the Tuxedo Dam in the Northern part of the lake.
Thank you for your patience and assistance during these repair and mitigation efforts.
Sincerely,
Mayor Thomas Wilson
